Habitat for Humanity
International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry
which seeks to eliminate poverty housing in our world. Since 1976, Habitat
has built more than 100,000 houses in more than 60 countries, including
some 30,000 houses across the United States.
The Montmorency County Habitat
for Humanity affilate builds and rehabilitates simple, decent homes using volunteer
labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials.
How it works:
Habitat houses are sold to partner
families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The
homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat
houses. In addition to closing costs and the monthly mortgage payments,
homeowners invest 250 hours per adult of their own labor -- sweat equity
-- into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
How families
are selected:
Families in need of decent housing
may apply to our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Our selection committee
chooses families based on level of need, willingness to partner, and
ability to repay the loan. We do not discriminate on race or religion when
selecting families.
Volunteers:
We are always looking for volunteers! If you would like to donate your time, talent or treasure, please contact
us.
